Child Support Awareness Month is held to highlight the importance of child support services and how it can help families and children, according to a news release from Los Angeles County officials.

Hosted by the Los Angeles County Child Support Services Department, the CSSD is responsible for establishing parentage, obtaining child support and medical support orders and enforcing child and spousal support obligations.

The Los Angeles County Child Support Month celebrations are a part of the bigger, nationwide celebration of recognizing the benefits families, parents and children receive when taking use of child support services.

The festivities will officially begin when the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors presents an award to Child Support Services Department director Dr. Steven J. Golightly for his department’s impactful work on families and children in Los Angeles County.

During the awareness month, CSSD will collaborate with the L.A. County Department of Parks and Recreation at the annual summer Parks After Dark program, to encourage healthy living, connect communities and provide a safe haven after hours.

L.A. County officials encourage residents to participate in the Park After Dark program at the following locations:

  • August 4 at Pamela Park in Duarte and Franklin D. Roosevelt Park in Los Angeles
  • August 5 at Ruben Salazar Park in Los Angeles
  • August 11 at Helen Keller Park in Los Angeles and Allen J. Martin Park in La Puente
