Man Struck, Killed By Vehicle On Sierra Highway In Canyon Country Identified

The 51-year-old Hispanic man who was struck and killed by a vehicle Monday night on Sierra Highway near the College of the Canyons Canyon Country campus has been identified.

Arleta resident Jose Manuel Mendoza was pronounced dead at the scene of the single-vehicle crash in the 17100 block of Sierra Highway shortly before 10 p.m.

Mendoza’s injuries were described as “severe” by Lt. Brian Aguilera with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station at the time of the incident.

The driver of the vehicle that struck Mendoza stopped immediately when the crash occurred and was cooperative with law enforcement, said Aguilera, adding that no charges have been brought against the driver.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department was dispatched to the collision at 9:50 p.m. and units arrived on scene within five minutes.

Both sides of Sierra Highway from the College of the Canyons Canyon Country campus entrance to the exit were closed for multiple hours at the time of the collision.

  1. The injuries were described as severe well yea, the guy was killed. How much more severe can they be?
