Congressman Steve Knight has made a public statement calling for a special prosecutor to investigate Russia’s ties to the U.S. election, saying the current fact-gathering process is moving too slowly.

“It is time for an investigation of Russia’s intervention in the U.S. Election,” Knight said in a statement. “There is too much at stake at home and abroad to not take this step. There is so much conflicting information from many sources; Americans deserve the opportunity to learn the truth.”
The congressman said he continues to support the House Intelligence Committee’s investigation, but joined other legislators in supporting the assignment of a special prosecutor to take over the ongoing FBI investigation.
In a KHTS interview, Knight expressed frustration with the current investigation, saying it distracted elected officials from their legislative agendas.
“We’ve gotta start breaking this down, and not getting congressmen overwhelmed by all of this,” Knight said. “So if there’s going to be a special prosecutor, then that’s where we’re going to have to go. Because each one of us congressional members, 535 of us, have our districts [and] have our issues.”

“Working on aerospace and small business and veterans and all the other things that come out take a huge amount of time,” he said. “That’s really why I wanted to come to Congress, to work on these issues. So if you start taking away too much of our time, then we’re not working on those issues and that bothers me.”
The Russian investigation received new scrutiny after President Donald Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, in a move the president’s critics claimed was to stall the investigation into his close allies and aides.
Trump claimed his decision to fire the head of the FBI was because Comey was “a showboat” and “a grandstander” and argued that Comey had thrown the FBI into “turmoil,” during an interview with NBC.
Knight said he believes the next step in the investigation will be decided in the coming weeks, with legislators on both sides of the aisle discussing how to proceed.
“I think that’s going to be a big discussion (this week) in conference, and talking to other members [about] how do we do this,” he said at a recent event in Sand Canyon. “And what speaker [of the House Paul] Ryan and the leadership is thinking, and how we can start moving past some of these things.”
He added the conversation needed to be put to bed as soon as possible, so more important matters could be addressed.
“I am tired of talking about issues that can be resolved and should be resolved,” Knight said. “Because we have other issues that are pressing.”

Weak. It’s time for an independent investigation into Russian meddling in the election AND the dealings of people in the Trump campaign and White House, including the president ‘s own conflicts of interest. Knight’s statement, as usual, falls short of what his constituents would like.
Most of us look at this Russian conspiracy as a bunch of Democrat and media generated hype and lies. There is no evidence or reason for a special prosecutor other than Chuck Shumer’s incessant harping.
But since the Democrats insist on the special prosecutor action with agreement of wimpy Republicans like Steve, let’s at least do a full investigation of government sins and appoint another special prosecutor to look into Ben Gazi, improper use by Lois Lerner of the IRS, Classified emails, and numerous lies by the O’Bama administration. We known there is evidence there and we know that the FBI is either unwilling or incapable to pursue those topics
Today 5/24, we hear about a highly illegal and unconstitutional use of the NSA to spy on American citizens under President Obama. That is a real crime, but we will hear no calls from the media or John McCaln, Chuck Shumer, Steve Knight, or any of the other loudmouths for a Special Prosecutor. Special Prosectors, after all, are reserved only for Trump and other Republicans. Corrupt and discusting.
