Garcia Sworn Into First Full Term Amid Tension Over COVID-19 Relief, Election Results

Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita, was sworn in for his first full term for California’s 25th Congressional District (CA-25) in the U.S. House of Representatives on Sunday as tensions continue to rise due to issues surrounding COVID-19 relief and the results of the 2020 presidential election.

On Sunday, Garcia was sworn into the 117th Congress, where he is set to serve his first full term as the Congressman for CA-25 following a narrow victory over Democratic challenger and former State Assemblywoman Christy Smith.

“I am honored to have the privilege to continue to serve the people of California’s 25th District,” Garcia said in a statement Monday. “I promise that I will continue to fight to protect our nation’s security, ensure our veterans and service members have the benefits and services they deserve, reduce government regulation and red-tape, and ensure that Californians have the support and resources they need to combat COVID-19 and safely open up our economy again.”

Garcia’s first full term in Congress begins as the district and the nation as a whole grapples with rising tensions stemming from debates regarding both the results of the 2020 presidential election, and the amount of federal aid in the face of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

On Monday morning, Garcia released a statement announcing that he would vote to reject some of the states’ electoral votes in the 2020 presidential election when Congress formally counts the Electoral College votes on Jan. 6.

“I have no blind loyalties to any individuals or political parties,” Garcia said in Monday’s statement. “My intent of objecting is not to change the outcome of the election. Fraud needs to be eradicated and is unacceptable regardless of whether it affects the outcome of the election.”

Garcia joins a number of Congressional Republicans who plan to challenge the election results on Wednesday, including at least 12 senators.

“The vote on 6 January is not about Trump versus Biden or left versus right. It is about seeking assured security,” Garcia said. “Assured security not only for the last election but more importantly for future elections. Assured security in knowing that not only will every legitimate vote be counted, but also that every illegitimate and fraudulent vote will not be counted.”

However, the outcome of the 2020 presidential race is not the only issue Garcia has taken a stance on. A week prior, Garcia was among the 44 Republicans in the House of Representatives to vote in favor of increasing the size of COVID-19 stimulus checks to $2,000.

“The reality is these checks are not helping us fight COVID but are helping us survive the government-induced lockdowns,” Garcia said in a statement at the time. “While I am a fiscal conservative, the original $600 was way too little, especially in SoCal, where the cost of living is higher, and in CA-25, where our unemployment rate is over 10%.”

Garcia pointed towards California Governor Gavin Newsom, stating that he had “caused significant economic hardship for citizens of California,” and specifically in California’s 25th Congressional District (CA-25), which he represents.

“Sacramento should be paying this bill, but they continue to fail us,” Garcia said. “I personally believe $2,000 to adults and children, and even those who have not lost their jobs, is too much. But my vote this week was a yes or no vote to either $600 or $2,000. In this case, given the severity of the lockdowns, $2,000 is the more appropriate value.”

The week before that, Garcia voted in favor of the $900 billion COVID-19 relief package, stating at the time that it “should have been done in September.”

“While this bill isn’t perfect, it funnels resources where they are most needed without the unnecessary spending found in Pelosi’s $3 (trillion) COVID-19 relief proposals,” Garcia said at the time. “As a fiscal conservative the size of this bill is staggering. But in the end, it is needed and may still not be enough for some small businesses and individuals who are suffering.”

  1. Clean-up on isle CA-25. A steaming load of horse apples has been dropped all over our congressional district.

He SAYS he promises to protect our nation’s security.
BUT he joins a coup attempt to disenfranchise American voters and overturn the presidential election.

He SAYS he has no blind loyalties to any individuals or any political party.
BUT his actions say the opposite by, without reservations, supporting Trump’s fraudulent claims.

He SAYS the vote is not about Trump versus Biden or left versus right. It is about assured election security.
BUT the reality is this was the most secure ans scrutinized election in our nation’s history.

As previously stated by not only me but many others he is a shill, a tool, a follower.
We need leadership, not another ambitious party-first sycophant.

Rich1 was correct yesterday when he said, “RECALL HIM.” Garcia has to go. His traitorous actions speak clearly for themselves. He does not represent the people’s will nor does he respect and defend democracy.
