Proposition 51 calls for California to finance the construction of K-14 facilities.

A statewide school bond hasn’t been passed within the last 10 years, leaving schools  in desperate need of upgrades and repairs to keep students safe and ensure they have facilities where they can learn, according to yeson51.com.

The Saugus Union School District officials passed resolution in support of Prop 51 earlier this year.

Proposition 51 also aims at enhancing safety standards, including earthquake safety, accessibility, fire safety systems, alarms and smoke detectors.

Opponents claim a disadvantage of Proposition 51 is that it stops legislators from providing fair school funding.

“Prop. 51 was created for greedy developers to exploit taxpayers for profit,” said Gov. Jerry Brown, according to the Secretary of State’s Voter Guide. “Proposition 51 stops legislators from providing fair school funding. Disadvantaged schools are left behind. There’s no improvement in taxpayer accountability. It does nothing to fight waste, fraud and abuse.”

  1. Please look at the endorsements for Prop. 51. The only opposition is Jerry Brown who has done nothing to invest in or improve our public school system. His misguided contempt for California’s school system stems from his days as the Mayor of Oakland and his know it all approach with Oakland Unified. He has done nothing to improve the situation of our state school system and only offers politically motivated rhetoric to satisfy his agenda with no real solutions. We wouldn’t want kids to get in the way of his desire for our taxes to go towards high speed rail, water, and transportation.
