Santa Clarita Leaders React To President Trump’s Inauguration

Leaders representing Santa Clarita are reacting to Donald Trump being sworn in as President on Monday for a second term.

On January 20, 2025, Donald J. Trump was inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States, marking his second, non-consecutive term in office.

On Tuesday, California State Senator Suzette Valladares (R-Santa Clarita), shared her good wishes to the incoming President.

“Congratulations to President Trump, Vice President Vance, and their new Administration. This is a pivotal moment for our nation, as we turn the page to restoring commonsense policies, border security, and the safety and prosperity of American families. For California, it’s also a critical time as we prioritize recovery from recent wildfires. I look forward to working with the new Administration to ensure the victims and communities receive the assistance from the Federal Government that they urgently need,”  Valladares said.

Assemblymember Pilar Shiavo (D-Chatsworth) kept her comments focused on the local issues at hand.

“My focus has, and will always be, strengthening our community and ensuring everyone has the support they need to thrive. We’ve seen firsthand that when disaster strikes—whether through the devastating Los Angeles fires or Chiquita Canyon disaster—our community steps up for one another. Firefighters don’t ask what political party you belong to before saving your life or home, and fire relief volunteers don’t check how you vote before offering a helping hand. So regardless of who is in the White House, our work to come together, bridge divides, and deliver, continues,” Schiavo said.

Last Saturday, at our Day of Service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., people came  together—donating food and clothes to fire victims, thanking our first responders, and bringing students hope who are struggling with our mental health crisis. These acts of kindness remind us that we have far more in common than what divides us. Those are the values that will be at the forefront of our work these next four years and beyond.”
