L.A. County Sheriff Candidate Oscar Martinez Responds To Federal ICE Raid In MacArthur Park, Calls Out L.A. Leadership’s Failure To Confront Crime

Earlier today, federal immigration enforcement agents conducted a targeted operation in MacArthur Park, a neighborhood long plagued by gang violence, drug trafficking, and human exploitation.

Rather than support efforts to restore safety to our streets, several elected officials, including Mayor Karen Bass and members of the Los Angeles City Council, openly criticized the operation and defended an environment that continues to deteriorate for working families.

Oscar Martinez, a U.S. Marine Corps combat veteran and law enforcement leader with over 15 years in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, issued the following statement:

“Today’s raid was a stark reminder of how far our local leaders have strayed from the mission of public safety. When federal agents step in to target known criminal networks and restore order, our elected officials should support those efforts, not condemn them.

The children and families in MacArthur Park are not afraid of law enforcement. They’re afraid of the open-air drug markets, gang extortion, human trafficking, and daily violence that City Hall has failed to confront.

Enough is enough. As Sheriff, I will not stand by while our communities are overrun by criminal activity and failed leadership. I will stand up for victims, enforce the law, and partner with anyone — local, state, or federal, who is serious about protecting Los Angeles County.”

Martinez, who is running to become the next Los Angeles County Sheriff in 2026, has made restoring law and order one of the cornerstones of his campaign. He has pledged to return proactive policing, rebuild community trust, and stand firm against political agendas that weaken public safety.

  1. It sure is nice to hear a voice of reason and common sense from this sheriff compared to most of the nut jobs running LA.

  2. He is NOT THE SHERIFF. He is a future candidate for the 2026 election.
That said, I hope they arrest and deport LA Mayor Bass to South Sudan.

  3. The city and county will do what it takes to keep him from becoming sheriff. Mark my words.

  4. The Los Angeles County Sheriff position requires enforcing the Constitutional of the USA, and therefore has a higher position than the Los Angeles City Mayor. It is good to see candidates coming out to make that point. California political clarification is evolving. Deep rooted anti California citizen policies will take time to dissolve.

I attended the well done and enjoyable 4th of July parade. Everyone seemed patriotic, wishing “Happy 4th of July” to all. There was one noticeable exception. In fact, I discussed this exception with a fellow parade attendee, who was with his family. None of the Newhall School District parade members returned a happy 4th of July greeting.

  5. ICE swore to go after criminal and gang members.
Instead they are going after say laborer and food truck operators.

I want a sheriff who serves and protects, not harasses and attacks.

    • Amen Brother, these political stunts are nothing more than exercises to incite a violent response. Don’t let the ICE*HOLES provoke you; military presence is unwanted, unwarranted and dangerous.
