LASC-SCV U14 Eyes National Glory After Dominant Season

The Los Angeles Sports Club LASC-SCV U14 boys team has had a year to remember, and their story isn’t finished yet.

With a stunning overall record of 31 wins, 2 losses, and 1 tie since last September, and four tournament championships already under their belt in 2025 alone, the Santa Clarita-based squad is heading to Colorado with momentum, chemistry, and championship experience on their side.

Their journey continues on July 17 at 12:30 p.m. MDT, when they face Central Washington Sounders in their first matchup of the National Cup, held at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado.

It’s a familiar setting for the group, who competed in a similar national tournament there last year, falling just short in the semifinals.

Now, the goal is clear.

“This year, we actually feel way more prepared and confident for what’s coming up because we’ve done it before,” said Head Coach Jared White. “We know where the complex is, we know how far away it is from the hotel, we know where we can go train – like all those little things that were unknown last year are known this year. That kind of provides some comfort and confidence going into this attempt.”

LASC-SCV has proven itself throughout the year with standout tournament runs. The team won the Vegas Cup in January, going 6-0 and delivering a memorable 5-0 quarterfinal victory over Real Salt Lake-AZ in freezing temperatures.

“It was maybe 15° out,” White recalled. “I was worried. All the excuses were there. And we just came out and played probably the best game we’ve played in two years… from minute one, we dominated.”

Their other 2025 tournament titles include the SoCal Soccer State Cup, Club America Cup, and Velocity Cup, compiling an unbeaten run across those events.

In SoCal NPL play, LASC-SCV posted a 10-2 record, scoring 51 goals while conceding just 13.

Much of the team’s strength stems from its tight-knit group of mostly Santa Clarita-based players, many of whom have grown up through the club’s system together.

“This group has really just stayed together and grown as a group,” White said. “They’re more like brothers than they are just teammates. We have these 12 to 13 homegrown kids that started in our club at a young age and have just worked and done everything we’ve asked.”

Among the long-time contributors are Bryce Arietta, Jake Stires, Aiden Hernandez, Ryder Zarick, and Anthony Villafana, providing stability and leadership across the field. Key additions, such as Ramon Gutierrez and Derek Cook, who joined the squad last year, have enhanced its attacking and defensive depth.

“Ramon joined us last year before Colorado and has really taken our team to another level,” White noted.

Although many of their upcoming opponents – teams from El Paso (TX), Iowa, and Washington – are largely unknown, the LASC-SCV squad is ready for the challenge. The lack of common opponents doesn’t shake the team’s confidence but fuels it.

“You’re kind of going in blind… not really knowing who you’re going to play or what that competition looks like,” White explained. “But this group has risen to the occasion every single time we’ve tasked them with, ‘Hey, this is it – let’s go get it.’ They’ve responded really well.”

Their journey to Nationals isn’t just a win for the team; it’s a reflection of the broader culture LASC-SCV has cultivated.

“As much as our team has had success, it really is a broader representation of what our club has done, getting quality coaches and creating a positive environment for the boys to thrive in,” White said.

Now, with experience, chemistry, and belief on their side, the LASC-SCV U14s are ready to take the next step on the national stage.
