Rumors and posts persist online, with several posting pictures (including one claiming to be in Canyon Country), however, there have been no confirmed Santa Clarita Valley sightings.

“It’s a trend and it’s not anything that’s new,” said Shirley Miller, noting the recent appearances and reports from neighboring stations, such as Lancaster. Lancaster Sheriff’s Station officials cautioned there were three confirmed reports of people being threatened by a clown holding a kitchen knife in recent days.

“As of last night, the Crime Prevention Unit, the Watch Commander, (patrol deputies),” Miller said, “nobody has had any clown sightings to report in Santa Clarita.”

Regardless, inevitably, a Facebook group springs eternal, and “SCV Creepy Clown Sightings” has emerged with a photo reportedly taken in Canyon Country — however, no contact with the clown was reported or verified.

“It’s happened before and it kind of resurfaces, periodically,” Miller said of the clown trend, noting social media’s tendency to recycle fads.

As always, the incidents serve top-of-mind awareness for people to be cognizant of their surroundings, Miller said, and that they should call the Sheriff’s Station if they see anything suspicious.

“It’s just something that we’re monitoring because there has been different sightings in different states (and in the Antelope Valley),” she added. “Even if people do something as a prank, even if it’s a hoax, if we see a report, we will respond and we will take it seriously.”

In Lancaster, the reports included a man in a clown costume holding a kitchen knife with the intent to scare pedestrians.

Some have linked the clown sightings, which took place last year, as well, as renewed interest in the movie remake of “It.”

The 1986 Stephen King best-seller about a killer clown that terrorizes young children, which is being remade into a movie expected next year.

  9. anything to keep your mind off the real issues and the damming campaign Killary continues.

  10. The Saugus incident on Saturday night was NOT just a sighting in a back yard. My girls locked themselves in an upstairs bathroom when they heard/saw the “clown” come in through the back sliding door with what appeared to be a machete. The girls were terrorized as he/they then walked up the stairs and walked in and out of all of the bedrooms clapping and snapping fingers and getting into one of the closed bedrooms. My daughter called 911 and the clown/s were gone by the time they arrived and got the girls out of the bathroom. I’m so upset and pissed about this. My daughter was again crying as she repeated this story to me today. This whole clown crap is ridiculous!!
