Ryan Osler was a Santa Clarita resident and Fire Engineer for the Ventura County, who died Sept. 21, when the fire engine he was in crashed while assisting in the effort to fight a fire in Santa Barbara.
In his honor, the Firehouse Subs establishments in Simi Valley and Valencia are holding a fundraiser Tuesday, Oct. 11, when 30 percent of total sales will be given to the family.
Jennifer Press, the Valencia Firehouse Subs owner, and the owner of the Simi Valley franchise had had plans organized this event when they received support from the former teacher of Mr. Osler’s children.
“When I had heard that saddening news of a public servant’s passing, I had felt that there was nothing I could do but to honor Mr. Osler by asking Firehouse Subs to host a community event where Mr. Osler’s friends, neighbors and counterparts in uniform can help Mrs. Osler,” according to the note passed on from the teacher, who asked to not be named.
“Both of these communities were largely affected by the passing of a local resident, and knowing his upstanding character, prompted the organization this event,” the note read. “The former teacher, who prefered to stay anonymous, also stated, “Mr. Osler loved his line of work. He loved his family and he loved his community. I figured then, what better way to return the favor of a man who served not only in Ventura County, but wherever he was needed.”
A Gofundme page has been created to support the Osler family.
Both establishments encourage people to come and support the Osler family in their time of grief.
The Santa Clarita Valley Firehouse Subs location is 23630 Valencia Blvd, Valencia, CA 91355.
