Rio Vista Students Battle Graffiti

Pupils and City work together to clean up area.

ImageOn Friday, March 28, 1000 students from Rio Vista elementary school along with six members of the City’s Graffiti Task Force came together to clean up the open area and rain wash behind the school. The group managed in three hours to clean up the trash and paint over any and all graffiti for a quarter mile, which is about the size of two football fields.

The grade levels of the students that participated in the clean-up range from kindergarten to sixth grade. The students went through 100 gallons of paint while painting over the graffiti.

“It is really surprising to see how the kids react to the graffiti being by their school, and how they are so adamant about cleaning it up. It makes me proud to do my job,” said Nicholas Marinelli, City’s Graffiti Removal Coordinator, who headed up this clean-up.

All residents are urged to report graffiti as they see it, by calling the city’s graffiti removal hotline at 25-CLEAN (252-5326) or use the new E-Service online request form at http://user.govoutreach.com/santaclarita/.

For more information on the Graffiti Task Force and the work they do for the Santa Clarita communities, please call Nicolas Marinelli, City’s Graffiti Removal Coordinator at (661) 286-4125.
