While millions have already turned out to see the latest take on the “Ghostbusters” movie franchise in theaters, a few Santa Clarita Valley dancers were a part of the world premiere last week in Hollywood.

L.Y.T.E. Dance Studios in Santa Clarita provided several of the performers in the red carpet premiere.
Before the stars came out, a group of local performers, clad in their ghost-busting costumes and ecto-plasm-proof backpacks, of course, entertained the crowd with a number by a select group of SCV dancers.
The student dancers performed in costumes and backpacks they got to keep, and then hugged and high-fived the stars of the blockbuster movie as they walked down the red carpet.
L.Y.T.E. Dance Studios is operated by Santa Clarita residents Tawnya and William McCoy, and the studio bills itself as “the only professional hip hop training and dance education offered in Santa Clarita and Antelope Valleys.”
The performance was photographed nationally by news outlets, leaving the dancers with one of their most memorable performances. The parents were excited, as well.
The 2016 reboot of the 1984 comedy took in about $46 million in its opening weekend, which officially started July 15.
From a CNN report about “Ghostbusters” opening weekend:
“Ghostbusters” came in with a lot of attention due to its iconic brand, notable stars and fervent backlash from some online who were upset about the all-female ghost hunting team.
“‘Ghostbusters’ debut proves that the power of the brand, the nostalgia factor and the appeal of the female cast held more sway with audiences than the critical barbs thrown at the movie,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at comScore (SCOR). “Audiences just wanted to go out and have a good time and as a new film in theaters it offered up something appealing and fun.”
Sony’s supernatural comedy has some work to do to make back its substantial $144 million budget, but it’s off to a solid start.
“This can be considered a spiritual (pun intended) win for a film that has been the subject of much debate and heated discussion,” Dergarabedian added.
