This summer from July 11 to Aug. 15, Thursday evenings are scheduled to feature races as part of the College of the Canyons’ 46th Annual Cross Country Summer Series.

The event invites runners of all ages to participate, and in doing so, support the college’s cross country and track and field programs.

Each week is expected to feature a three-mile race that begins at Cougar Field and takes participants through the college’s Valencia campus and its surrounding hillsides before finishing at Cougar Stadium.

The races are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., with the exception of a special kid’s race for young participants, which is to be held on the Cougar Stadium track at 6:45 p.m.

Racers can expect to be broken up into more than a dozen age divisions, with awards to be presented to the top three men and women from each age division upon the series’ conclusion on Aug. 15, while all kid’s race runners are expected to receive participation ribbons.

Live chip timing is expected to be used to track runners’ official times.

Participants are required to pay an entry fee, and those that participate in the final race are expected to receive a post-run dinner and the opportunity to attend the awards ceremony.

Those that wish to participate in each of the six races and attend the post-run dinner and awards ceremony may purchase a “Series Card.”

The entry fees vary as follows:

• First Five Races – $10
• Final Race – $20
• Series Card – $50
• Kid’s First Five Races – $2
• Kid’s Final Race – $12
• Kid’s Series Card – $20

For the first time, this year’s event also offers online registration as an option here.

In-person registration is the other alternative, which is expected to continue to be held at the finish line area inside Cougar Stadium on race day, but cash is not accepted, only checks.
