The Dodgers won three straight against the Diamondbacks over the weekend to take a one game lead in the West, but it lasted only one day as a new team took over the top spot in the division.

Yes, the Dodgers are 8-2 in their last 10 games. But one of those losses came last night, at home, to one of the worst teams in the National League. That simply won’t cut it in the tightest three-team race for the National League West in nearly a decade.

Granted, L.A. just so happened to run into the best pitcher in baseball this season, one Jacob deGrom and his ridiculous 1.68 ERA. But the fact remains that with Colorado (whom they battle at Coors Field this coming weekend) now a half-game ahead of the Dodgers and the D-Backs on a four game slide, it’s now or never to stack wins and create some separation in the division.

Two more opportunities to do that against the 62-75 New York Mets. Rich Hill takes the mound tonight with first pitching coming at 7:10. Listen live on your Dodgers station, KHTS FM 98.1.

PUIG SITS: Yasiel Puig was suspended for throwing hands with Giants catcher Nick Hundley on August 14th after his appeal was denied. He’ll be unavailable the final two games of the Mets series.

AUGUST BURNS RED: Justin Turner earned National League Player of the Month honors for his blistering August. Turner hit .402 with six homers and 20 RBIs in 25 games.
