As the mission for a third straight World Series appearance moves into mid August, the Dodgers are firing on all cylinders. Demolishing the Miami Marlins, 15-1 on the road, just seems unfair for a team that’s primed for October. Los Angeles is having fun and stacking wins in the dog days of summer.
Justin Turner hit a rough patch in July. He slumped to a .241 month. But August has been a different story for the Dodgers’ offensive leader: .297/.381/.676 slash line and four homers in 11 games.
He was one of five Dodgers to go deep yesterday, including two from Will Smith who continues to be a juggernaut at the plate. Smith hit two bombs and now has nine in his first 23 Major League Baseball games. Spread those numbers out over a full season and it will make your head spin.
Oh, and Cody Bellinger hit his MLB tying 39th homer of the season. Is there such thing as too many top performers on a club to talk about?
Clayton Kershaw (11-2, 2.77 ERA) takes the mound today when the Dodgers (80-41) attempt to reach the 40 games above . 500 mark. The most impressive thing about Kerhsaw’s quietly strong season is that, even after missing the first two and a half weeks of the season (three starts), he still has an opportunity to finish in the top 15 in innings pitched in the National League. He hasn’t gone less than six innings in any of his 20 starts.
The future Hall of Famer hits the rubber at 4:10 PST, and you can listen live on KHTS FM 98.1.
