Five Santa Clarita Softball Teams Set To Enter CIF-SS Playoffs

The regular season is complete, and now five Santa Clarita softball programs, four from the Foothill League and one from the Heritage League, are gearing up for the CIF-SS playoffs.

The first round of the softball playoffs begins Thursday, May 14, with another round of games scheduled for Friday, May 15.

Saugus vs. Brea Olinda – Division 2

The Centurions are coming off another dominant Foothill League championship season, finishing 12-0 in league play for the second consecutive year and 19-8 overall.

Saugus has relied on a balanced roster this season, with multiple players leading in key statistical categories.

Olivia Frias and Savanna Smith lead the team with 26 runs each, while Smith also has a team-high 35 hits. Amelia Johnson leads the Centurions with 39 RBIs and nine home runs.

For Brea Olinda, Haylee Arias leads the team with 39 hits and 31 runs, while Callie Hammond has a team-high 26 RBIs.

The two teams are set to face off on Thursday at 3:15 p.m. at Saugus High School.

West Ranch vs. Trabuco Hills – Division 3

West Ranch will be the lone local team beginning its postseason on Friday when the Wildcats host Trabuco Hills.

After reaching the CIF-SS championship game last season, West Ranch is looking to make another deep playoff run.

The Wildcats, who were a young team a year ago, return much of the core that helped them reach the finals. Key contributors this season include Naomi Stoll, Torrey Price, Juliette Merrilees and Ava Esparza.

For Trabuco Hills, sophomore Kayla Phan presents the biggest challenge, leading her team with 36 runs, 39 hits, 26 RBIs and 14 doubles.

Valencia at St. Bonaventure – Division 4

The Vikings will begin their postseason on the road against St. Bonaventure.

The Seraphs enter the playoffs after securing the Tri-Valley League title, finishing 8-0 in league play.

Valencia finished Foothill League play at 6-6 and ended the regular season with an 11-10 overall record, closing just above .500.

Hart at Burroughs – Division 4

Hart will also begin its playoff run on the road, traveling to face Burroughs on Thursday at 3:15 p.m.

The Hawks will be looking to improve on last season’s first-round exit, and freshman Naima Melendez could play a major role in helping them do so.

Melendez leads the team with 48 hits and 38 RBIs, while fellow freshman Kailyn Dodson has a team-high 32 runs scored.

With a young roster featuring just two seniors and 14 underclassmen, Hart’s biggest challenge may be handling the pressure and intensity of playoff softball.

Santa Clarita Christian at Avalon – Division 8

Santa Clarita Christian School is looking to secure its first playoff win in a decade as the Cardinals begin postseason play on the road against Avalon.

SCCS enters the playoffs below .500 but has leaned on strong performances from several young players.

Freshman Aubrey Moore leads the team with 21 runs and 23 hits, while Presley Waldron has been a key contributor with 21 RBIs and 12 doubles.
