Foothill League officials recently announced senior Valencia High infielder Davis Cop as the 2019 Baseball Player of the Year, and senior West Ranch High pitcher JD Callahan as Pitcher of the Year.
Cop, a University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) commit, played in 31 games in his senior season, accumulating 41 hits and 27 RBIs on a .376 batting average and .408 OBP.
“It’s a great honor. There are a ton of great players throughout this league who are going to have great careers, and to be the Player of the Year is just an amazing feeling,” said Cop. “It was a ton of long nights and hard work that went into it, and to be recognized for all of it in this way is really cool.”
In his senior season, Callahan pitched in 12 games, starting in 10, in which he accumulated seven wins, two losses and one save while also maintaining a 1.54 ERA and tossing 63 strikeouts.
Callahan, who is set to join Cop at UCSB next year, has also recently committed to becoming a Gaucho.
”Getting to play with JD is going to be awesome. He’s a really big competitor and I’m looking forward to getting to play with him after all these years of playing against him,” Cop said.
