Saugus (6-2, 2-2) routed West Ranch Friday night at Cougar Stadium, picking up their second straight Foothill League win and moving one step closer to a playoff berth.
The headline of the night was quarterback Jake Nuttall breaking Saugus’ single-game passing touchdown record in their 54-6 win over West Ranch (1-6, 0-3).
Nuttall accomplished the feat before halftime with six touchdown passes and added a seventh in the second half.
Head Coach Jason Bornn reflected on Nuttall’s journey through the program, saying, “That kid took a beating as a sophomore and then as a junior last year… so for him it’s very satisfying. I’m super excited for him that he’s stuck the course, a lot of other players would have transferred out or found reasons to tap out and quit.”
While Bornn and the team celebrated Nuttall’s success, the senior quarterback gave all the credit to those around him.
“It’s very special, I’m extremely humbled. I have a lot of great teammates around me and a great coaching staff and I want to give all the credit to them,” stated Nuttall
One of Nuttall’s top targets on the night was Landon Lattimore, who had an impressive five-touchdown performance.
“[Lattimore] is a special athlete. He’s always the first one out and the last one in. I’m super grateful to have him,” said Nuttall.
Bornn echoed the praise for Lattimore, adding, “It’s not shocking to us, it’s great news for everybody who gets to come out here and watch him because they don’t see what we see in practice every single day.”
The Nuttall-Lattimore connection sparked early, with the pair linking up on the offense’s first drive from 12 yards out. They connected again before the end of the first quarter.

That would be the Centurions’ final touchdown of the night, as a running clock drained most of the remaining time. West Ranch found the end zone on the final play of the game to make the final score 54-6.
After dropping their first two Foothill League games, the Centurions are now on a two-game win streak. They’ll get a break with a bye next week before returning October 24 to host Castaic.
West Ranch, still looking for their first league win, will play Castaic next Friday at 7 p.m.
