Santa Clarita Boys Lacrosse Roundup: Saugus Remains Undefeated In League Play

In Foothill League boys lacrosse action, Saugus continues to lead the standings with an unblemished league record, while West Ranch sits just one game behind with a single loss in league play.

Saugus (13-1, 5-0):
The Centurions currently sit atop the Foothill League standings and are aiming to secure back-to-back league titles.

In league competition, Saugus has earned decisive victories over Valencia (13-1), Hart (17-3), Castaic (31-0), West Ranch (13-6) and Valencia again (19-1).

Saugus opened the season with 13 consecutive wins before suffering its first loss Tuesday against Los Alamitos.

During that stretch, Gavin Pantelidis emerged as one of the nation’s top scorers, leading the country with 60 goals according to MaxPreps. Sophomore Luke Young has also been a key contributor, leading the nation with 55 assists per MaxPreps statistics.

The Centurions will look to rebound Friday when they face Dos Pueblos at 5:30 p.m.

West Ranch (6-4, 4-1):
West Ranch sits second in the Foothill League with its only league loss coming against Saugus. The Wildcats have recorded convincing league wins over Hart (16-2), Castaic (20-1), Valencia (11-7) and Hart again (21-10).

Garden Choe leads the team offensively with 35 goals, averaging 3.5 goals per game, while Aidan Rocco anchors the defense with 21 takeaways.

West Ranch continues league play on Wednesday with a road matchup against Castaic at 6:30 p.m.

Valencia (2-6, 2-3):
Valencia has faced a challenging stretch in March, dropping four games this month. However, league wins over Hart and Castaic have kept the Vikings competitive in the standings.

Tyler Cervantes has been a defensive leader with 22 takeaways and 40 ground balls, while Gabriel De Mesa leads the team with 13 goals. Valencia will host Hart on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Hart (3-5, 1-4):
The Hawks have struggled during league play, earning their lone Foothill League victory over Castaic (17-2).

With three league contests and four non-league games remaining, Hart will aim to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.

Hart will travel to face Valencia on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Castaic (0-7, 0-4):
Castaic is still searching for its first win of the season as league play continues. The Coyotes will look for a breakthrough when they host West Ranch on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
