Santa Clarita Girl’s Basketball Recap

Less than a month into the girl’s basketball season the Foothill League has seen a shift in power with the top three teams a season ago now in the bottom three.

With league play approaching will they pull ahead around or have the tables turned?

Saugus 4-1:

The Lady Centurions currently lead the Foothill League with four wins and only one loss against San Dimas.

To kick off the season Saugus defeated Diamond Ranch 54-34 before falling to San Dimas 51-29.

Following their loss the Lady Centurions went on a three-game winning streak beating the likes of Burbank (64-33), Chino (54-53) and St. Bonaventure (54-42).

Saugus aims to keep the streak alive and beat Canyon for the first time since 2016, on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in a home game.

Golden Valley 2-0:

The Grizzlies have had a solid start to the season beating Vasquez (44-34) and Quartz Hill (48-38).

This is the first time Golden Valley has started the season off 2-0 since the 2015-16 season and if they win their next game it’ll be the first time they go 3-0 since the 2013-14 season.

The Grizzlies have their targets set on Malibu when they face off on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in an away game.

West Ranch 2-1:

After opening the season with a 53-32 loss to Santa Paula the Wildcats have turned things around and are now 2-1.

After beating out Newbury Park 46-42, West Ranch cruised to a 54-45 victory over Simi Valley.

The Wildcats are scheduled to travel to Castaic High School Tuesday at 5 p.m. to take on the Coyotes.

Castaic 1-1:

The beginning of the season for the Coyotes went up in flames when they lost to Lancaster 62-27.

Castaic quickly moved past that setback and won their next game, defeating Palmdale Aerospace Academy 48–39.

The Coyotes have now switched their focus to Tuesday night’s game against the Wildcats at 5 p.m.

Canyon 2-2:

To open up the season the Cowboys received a couple of tough losses to Birmingham (65-46) and Buena (60-44).

Since then Canyon has flipped a switch and won two straight games, beating the likes of Coronado (67-47) and Basic (60-57).

Tuesday at 5 p.m. it will be a battle of the streaks when Canyon and Saugus face off.

Hart 1-2:

The Indians are off to a rocky start after dropping their first game to Redondo Union 58-43.

Following that they hopped in the win column after defeating San Marcos 61-50 then lost another game to Village Christian 62-52.

The Indians are hoping for a win when they take on Valencia at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Valencia 1-4:

After starting 5-0 just a season ago the Vikings now sit at a 1-4 record behind Hart.

Valencia got their season started by going down to Chaminade 84-55 and Camarillo 77-36.

When the Vikings played Heritage Christian they found some success and picked up a 44-26 win.

Then they had a repeat and lost two straight games to Westlake (58-36) and Granada Hills Charter (58-47).

The Vikings now have the opportunity to defeat Hart on Tuesday at 5 p.m. live from Valencia High School.
