Santa Clarita Girls Soccer Team Makes History Advancing To U.S. National Championship

For the first time in Santa Clarita history, a Legends FC girls soccer team has advanced to the  United States Youth Soccer (USYS) Far West National Championship.

The group of athletes are a team of 18 local Santa Clarita girls who have practiced and played fiercely and tirelessly, bringing their team to be one of the top eight in the country.

On June 30, the Legends FC Santa Clarita Valley Girls 2007 team played and battled to make it to the 2021 USYS Far West Regional Finals, located in Boise, Idaho this past weekend. They returned home one of eight teams across the nation with an invitation to compete in the National Championships in Florida.

Between July 19-25, 2021 this team of hardworking and talented athletes will compete for the National Title, according to officials with the soccer league.

After what has been an unconventional and unpredictable season, the team of 18 girls has fought through obstacle after obstacle to earn their way to this finale. After winning a series of preliminary tournaments and games, only now do they get to compete for the title. These girls have played and defeated teams from Idaho, Colorado, Oregon, and Nevada, according to officials.

“Hard work works,” said Coach Adam Waddell. “So extremely proud of our Legends Family and the sacrifices made to get here. It all comes down to team cohesiveness, heart, hunger, and your desire to win. This dedicated team is making history for the Santa Clarita Valley as one of only eight 2007 Girls teams across the country competing for the National Title,”
