Fresh off their decisive victory of TCA in the Faith Bowl, the Cardinals of SCCS (5-1) will face another home test tomorrow night against San Joaquin league foe The Webb Schools (5-1) at Canyon High School.

Tristan Miller needs to cut down on his mistakes if the Cards want to make serious noise in the league, but he is putting up staggering numbers so far. The junior QB leads San Joaquin in passing yards (2,085) and is more than doubling the 2nd place passer in touchdown passes (29 – next closest is 14).

Kickoff is at 7pm Saturday night at Canyon High School.

The Trinity Classical Knights (3-2) were stifled on offense last week in large part due to being a mirror image of their football big brother, Santa Clarita Christian. There’s no question they’ll get back on track on the road to winless Sherman Indian in Riverside tonight.

Watch out for the emergence of Ian Caddow on defense, who had three interceptions against the Cardinals, two of which he returned for touchdowns.

Santa Clarita High School Volleyball

The biggest volleyball game to date in the Foothill League was at Valencia Thursday night between the Vikings and the Hart Indians, and it was the #7 ranked Vikings flexing on their crosstown rival.

Valencia (5-0) swept Hart (4-1) in straight sets doing exactly what head coach Ray Sanchez expressed before the game, playing fundamentally sound volleyball. “We’re finally able to put are full lineup on the court so it’s going to be nice,” said Sanchez.

Not nice for the rest of the Foothill League, as an undefeated record is now within the Vikings’ grasp.

Elsewhere in the league, West Ranch swept Golden Valley to firmly entrench itself as the third best team with a 3-2 record. No other Foothill League team has a winning record.

Santa Clarita High School Cross Country

The Saugus Centurions know cross country, plain and simple. Both the boys and girls teams sit atop the Foothill League standings after meet #2, and the girls have been at the top of the Division 2 rankings all year long.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Postseason heartbreak has become a formality for Dodgers fans in October. It is now nine playoff seasons without a World Series appearance, and approaching thirty years since Kirk Gibson’s famous home run.

Thursday night was another disappointing performance at home, where the Dodgers lost two playoff games, one each started by Kershaw and Greinke.

Daniel Murphy was simply brilliant offensively for the Mets. The second baseman went 3 for 4, driving in the first run and then going first to third on a walk in an inexplicable mental lapse by the Dodgers while in a shift.

But he saved the best for last, launching a game-winning home run to right field, and the Dodgers were finished, 3-2.

It will be a long offseason for the Dodgers with several questions to answer. At the top of the list is to be or not to be with manager Don Mattingly. Next, decisions will need to be made on resigning Zack Greinke and Howie Kendrick.

Here’s to a long winter at Chavez Ravine.
