Saugus Senior Anthony Ramirez Hits Walk-Off Homer To Knock Off Downey

Both Saugus and Downey put up 0’s across the board until a wild eighth inning.

What was an all-out pitchers duel for most of the afternoon, turned into late-game offensive fireworks for the Saugus Centurions.

Downey pitcher Sebastian Diaz struck out 11 batters in seven shutout innings, and Saugus’ Bobby Garcia matched him with five strikeouts and just one earned run.

The Vikings scored on a pair of RBI singles in the top of the eighth inning to force the Centurions into their final three outs of the season. Then the magic happened: a walk by Tony Jacob, then Hayden Trowbridge hits a single. So with two outs and runners on first and second, Anthony Ramirez stepped up to the plate representing the game-winning run.

Ramirez proceeded to end the game in dramatic fashion with his second home run of the season, completing the 3-2 comeback victory in the Division 3 Wild Card round.
