Valencia, Hart Remain Undefeated In Foothill League Play

After two weeks of Foothill League action, both Hart and Valencia remain unbeaten at 2-0 in league play.

In their most recent games, Hart held off Golden Valley, while Valencia dominated Saugus.

Hart Holds Off Golden Valley to Stay Perfect in Foothill League

Hart remained undefeated in Foothill League play with a 40-28 win over Golden Valley in a thrilling matchup Friday night at Cougar Stadium. The victory moves Hart to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in league, while Golden Valley drops to 2-4 and 1-1.

Running back Matix Frithsmith delivered another standout performance, rushing for three touchdowns on runs of 10, 13, and 12 yards. Quarterback Jacob Paisano contributed two touchdown passes, including an 18-yard strike to Silas Tucker to open the game and a 28-yard connection with Michael Toner in the third quarter.

Hart led 20-7 at halftime and extended the lead to 26-7 early in the third. Golden Valley, however, stormed back behind quarterback Jayce Johnson, who threw a touchdown pass to Ace Frias and ran for two more, bringing the Grizzlies within 33-28.

A key turning point came late in the fourth quarter when Golden Valley attempted a second onside kick. Hart’s Bailey Hill scooped up the ball and returned it for a touchdown, securing the win. It was Hill’s second clutch play in as many weeks after a game-sealing interception against Saugus.

Hart head coach Jake Goossen-Brown praised his team’s early execution but acknowledged the need to maintain consistency for all four quarters.

Hart travels to West Ranch on Friday, while Golden Valley looks to regroup quickly as they host Castaic on Thursday.

Valencia Dominates Saugus to Remain Undefeated in League

Valencia’s Brady Bretthauer helped lead the Vikings to a perfect 2-0 in league, 5-1 overall, with a 55-14 win over Saugus.

Prior to league play, Saugus was 4-0, but since the Foothill League began, the Centurions have dropped two straight and now sit at 4-2.

In the game, Bretthauer threw for 238 yards and five touchdowns on nine completions. He connected with Anthony Vernon, Elias Holloway, Hudson Sanders, and Nico Funez twice. Bretthauer also rushed for 100 yards.

Valencia led 35-7 at halftime and added 20 more points in the third quarter. Saugus managed just one more touchdown in the fourth.

For the Centurions, Jake Nuttall threw for 203 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. The run game struggled, producing only 38 rushing yards between three runners.

Valencia will be on a bye this week and returns to action on October 10 against Canyon. Saugus will be on the road to face Canyon on Friday at 7 p.m. as they look to get back on track.

Canyon Beats Castaic for First Win of the Season

Friday night, Canyon and Castaic entered the game winless, but by night’s end, the Cowboys earned their first victory with a 42-0 shutout over the Coyotes.

Canyon running back Keshawn Wooten was the workhorse, scoring on a 23-yard run and following it with a 97-yard touchdown on his next touch.

The rest of the backfield contributed as well, with Semaj Richardson and Bencio Wright both making key plays. Richardson broke off a 49-yard run and followed it with a 19-yard touchdown. Wright added a 4-yard rushing touchdown of his own.

Castaic hopes to get in the win column on a short week as they prepare to play Golden Valley on Thursday. Canyon will take on a hungry Saugus squad Friday at 7 p.m.
