Valencia High Softball Wins In Dominant Fashion Against Agoura High School

Two home runs and three multi-hit games from Valencia High School’s varsity softball team vaulted the Vikings to victory in a 13-1 rout against Agoura High School in the season opener.

The Vikings (1-0) returned to the field for the first time since capturing their third consecutive Foothill League title with a dominant display at home.

Pitcher Emma Montoya contributed five innings for the Vikings, allowing only one run on two hits and pitching three strikeouts.

Brianne Stone came in for one inning in relief of Montoya to close out the game.

Defensively, the team appeared to have not lost a step since last season, as they committed no errors, while offensively the team performed like a juggernaut.

The Vikings connected for 11 hits throughout the game, two of which were home runs from Delaney Scully and Alexis De Young in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively.

Emma Bramson, Emma Seper and Delaney Scully each contributed a multiple hit performance to the team’s offense.

The game ended after the sixth inning, at which point Agoura High found themselves behind by more than 10 runs, triggering a CIF rule which ends the game rather than continue through the standard seven innings.

The next game for the Valencia High Vikings is scheduled to be against Harvard Westlake on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 8 a.m. as part of the 43rd Annual Suzanne Manlet Softball Tournament in Simi Valley.

  1. Great to see that the team is doing well, but I didn’t care much for the FASHION title. It still sounds like they are just a bunch of girls, while in fact they sound like great athletes. I liked the juggernaut comment better, as that fits a team of VIKINGS better. Us ladies are already judged on appearance enough, can we leave fashion out of the sports page?
    My two cents.

  2. Great article Wyatt! I also liked the comment you made of how “offensively the team performed like a juggernaut.” Don’t stress about the title. I’ve heard “winning in a dominant fashion” used for men’s sports too. They won 13-1… that’s winning in a dominant fashion. I don’t think it’s gender related. Loved the article. You got my full support! Good stuff.
