After the Saugus High shooting, the nonprofit Santa Clarita Coalition collected over $200,000 on behalf of the William S. Hart Union High School District to donate to those affected by the tragedy last November.
On the morning of Nov. 14, 2019, a shooting at Saugus High School claimed the lives of two students and left the community of Santa Clarita in mourning. Immediately following this tragic event, the Santa Clarita Valley came together to support those affected by way of prayers, donations, mental health resources and spiritual support.
The Hart District established a fund in partnership with the Santa Clarita Valley Disaster Coalition to support the ongoing needs of the students, staff and families of Saugus High School as a result of November’s tragic events.

In order to mitigate the impact on the staff at Saugus High School as they progress through the healing process, the district requested that all monetary donations be made via the Santa Clarita Disaster Coalition’s website.

In the intervening weeks, dozens of Santa Clarita businesses and hundreds of individuals have donated to the fund, so far raising $204,161.88, all of which went to the families of Saugus High shooting victims, the WiSH Foundation, Saugus High School and the Child & Family Center.
“The Santa Clarita Disaster Coalition was formed to assist our valley during times of crisis,” said Carl Goldman, president of the Santa Clarita Coalition. “We’ve assisted Santa Clarita residents during fires and floods. We never envisioned the Saugus High shooting ever happening in our valley. We’re glad we can assist and support those impacted by the shooting. Hopefully, we are able to provide some comfort.”
Several of the families of the victims established funds meant directly to meet their needs. The district and the SCV Coalition plan to continue working with those families to assist in posting verified fundraising sites to the SaugusStrong.org website.
