The nonprofit Santa Clarita Grocery donated bicycles to the family of a Saugus High shooting victim last week.
Two bicycles were donated to the younger brothers of Dominic Blackwell, one of the victims who died as a result of the Saugus High shooting.
“For the bulk of the bikes, we had a raffle, but we kept bikes from the raffle to give to specific individuals,” said Bradley Grose, founder of Santa Clarita Grocery. “People who we thought we could lift their spirits. We could bring some good cheer in what may be a difficult time of year.”
Frank Blackwell and one of his sons visited Santa Clarita Grocery’s distribution site to receive the bikes, where Grose met him.
“It was neat for me to find out that the father served in the U.S. Army,” Grose said. “I was able to thank him for his service to this country and shake his hand.”

Santa Clarita Grocery is a nonprofit charity providing people in need from Santa Clarita with groceries. With the help of over 70 volunteers, groceries are bought, organized and distributed within a week’s span, according to Grose.
“We are a nonprofit charity for the city of Santa Clarita, providing groceries for those in need,” Grose said. “We encourage people to pay their bills and get their groceries from us… It comes in and we move it very quickly. Our goal is to make the best possible use of the resources given.”
When Santa Clarita Grocery has excess food, it is donated to other local outreach programs, including the Salvation Army and the petting zoo in William S. Hart Park.
