Hiker Hoisted From Newhall Hiking Trail After Medical Emergency

A person was hoisted from a Newhall hiking trail after suffering a medical emergency Tuesday.

Around 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, first responders received reports of a person suffering a medical emergency involving a hiker at Towsley Canyon on The Old Road in Newhall, said Justin Yang, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“The patient had hiked approximately 3 miles on the East Fork of Towsley Canyon when the patient suffered an acute medical emergency,” Yang said.

Firefighters worked alongside deputies to rescue the hiker.

“Crews hiked in to meet the patient and a L.A. County helicopter was summoned to assist in the extraction of the patient,” Yang said.

The hiker was hoisted from the trail and brought to an adjacent parking lot where the patient was further assessed, according to officials.

The patient was in stable condition and did not want to be taken to the hospital, Yang confirmed.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
