Brush Fire Breaks Out In Valencia Near 5 Freeway, Industrial Center

A brush fire broke out near the 5 Freeway in the Valencia Industrial Center Friday afternoon, prompting a response from firefighters, officials said.

UPDATE: 1:10 p.m. — Forward progress has stopped on the Valencia brush fire near the 5 Freeway. Firefighters are expected to remain on scene for about two hours, according to Fire officials.

The brush fire, dubbed the Stanford Fire, was first reported around 12:40 p.m. Friday on the northbound 5 Freeway near Highway 126, said Tony Imbrenda, a captain with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“The fire is burning between the freeway and (Avenue) Stanford running in medium brush,” Imbrenda said.

The fire is at a quarter acre as of 1 p.m. Friday, according to officials.

The California Highway Patrol has shut down the No. 3, 4 and 5 lanes of the northbound 5 Freeway near Rye Canyon Road as of Friday afternoon, according to CHP officials.

A SIG Alert has been issued for the closure of the lanes until about 3 p.m. Friday, according to the CHP.

  1. Throwing a lit cigarette out of a car should carry a mandatory jail sentence. Quit smoking or stay home!

  2. Or was it arson? Why can’t they put cameras (even just a gopro) along the freeway to see what/who is starting all this stuff. People aren’t going to stop this stupid dangerous behavior until someone gets prosecuted for it.
