Deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station set-up a GoFundMe for their brother in the force who lost his home and four dogs in an electrical fire while on-duty Thursday night.
Deputy David Delgado was on-duty at the time, protecting the Santa Clarita Valley community when he received a call just after 8 p.m. that his house had caught fire, and his dogs were still inside.
“Fortunately, David, Amanda and their two sons, Hudson and Atlas, were not home during the incident,” said Deputy Kayla Tucker. “However, they did lose their four furry loved ones: Kiko, Khloe, Kora and Kiani.”
The family’s home, located on the 3800 block of West Acton Avenue in Acton, was reported to have caught fire around 7:55 p.m. Thursday when witnesses observed smoke emanating from the roof, according to Dispatcher Minos, a spokesperson with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
“We got on scene at 8 p.m.,” Minos said. “We closed the incident three hours later at 10:18 p.m.”
Within those three hours, firefighters battled the flames, which had overtaken the entirety of the home, killing the family’s four pets in the blaze, according to Fire officials.
The structure was described by emergency responders as an accidental electrical fire and the family of four was only able to recover a few burnt items in the rubble, according to Sergeant Ryan Elsee with the SCV Sheriff’s Station.
“It was a total loss,” Elsee said. “Please consider helping a member of our station family out in their time of need.”
Delgado, who has been serving the Santa Clarita Valley for four years – a total of eight years on the force – currently serves as a field training deputy to provide for his wife and two boys, according to officials.
“We are here as a family, so let’s show our love and support to help them get back on their feet,” Tucker said.

“This is just tragic, I couldn’t imagine,” Minos said. “This serves as a good opportunity to remind the community that these things do happen, and during brush fires especially it is important to stay in contact with neighbors, to make sure that pets have a way to get out during emergency situations.”
