The Lake Fire has reached 48 percent containment, burning over 27,000 acres as of Thursday morning, officials said.
UPDATE 6 p.m. — The Lake Fire has reached 27,841 acres with 52 percent containment, according to officials with Angeles National Forest.
The brush fire, dubbed the Lake Fire, first broke out on Aug. 12 at about 3:30 p.m. north of Santa Clarita near Lake Hughes, according to the Angeles National Forest.
Wednesday night, the Lake Fire was active on the western flank in the areas of Altmore Meadows and Burnt Peak Canyon, according to an ANF update.

Dozers and hand crews made good progress on containment lines on the southwest edge of the Lake Fire between Burrow and Rattlesnake Canyons, according to the ANF.
“Firefighters continue to be challenged with rugged terrain, high temperatures, critically dry fuels and drought-stressed trees,” said the Thursday morning update.
At least 12 structures and 21 outbuildings have been destroyed by the Lake Fire, with an additional 1,329 structures still threatened, according to Fire officials.
The Lake Fire is burning in the Angeles National Forest moving northeast toward an area consisting of Douglas Fir and Oak Pine — which hasn’t burned for about 100 years.
“Crews will watch for fire whirls, or fire devils, a spinning vortex column of ascending hot air and gases rising from a fire,” said ANF officials on Tuesday
