Man Rushed To Hospital After Car Bursts Into Flames

A man suffered first and second degree burns Saturday after his car burst into flames on the 14 Freeway and spread to the surrounding brush.

At around 1:40 p.m. first responders received reports of a car on fire on the 14 Freeway by the Newhall off and on ramps, according to Captain Manny Sampang with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Firefighters work to put out car and brush fire.

“It was a half-acre brush as a result of a vehicle fire,” said Sampang. “The vehicle was involved in a traffic collision.”

The car ended up crashing into the fence of the Newhall exit before becoming engulfed in flames. These flames quickly spread to the dry brush surrounding the vehicle near the 14 Freeway.

Black smoke could be seen from Newhall Avenue as firefighters worked to put out the growing fire.

A man was treated by medical first responders after receiving first and second degree burns on 15 percent of his body, according to responders on scene.

The man was taken to the hospital via ambulance, according to Sampang but his condition is now known.

No other structures were threatened and the fire was stopped at half an acre, according to Sampang.

The Newhall off-ramp has been closed according to CHP for an unknown duration.

  1. That’s a terrible off ramp, it needs to be re-worked.
I hope the driver is ok despite the burns.
