Santa Clarita Brush Fire: Tick Fire, Old Fire Prompt School Closures

Santa Clarita brush fires, including the Tick Fire and Old Fire, have prompted school closures across the valley, officials said.

Pre K-12

As of 7:40 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, all PreK-12 schools in the Santa Clarita Valley have announced that they would be closed Friday due to the Tick Fire in Canyon Country and the Old Fire in Castaic.

All schools in the William S. Hart Union High School District, Newhall School District, Saugus Union School District, Castaic Union School District, Agua Dulce School District and Sulphur Springs School District have canceled all classes and are closed due to current weather, fire and transportation issues. Visit the appropriate district websites for additional updates.

 

SCVi and the associated preschool, Little iLEADers Early Childhood Learning Center, in Castaic are closed, according to school officials.

Trinity Classical Academy, Santa Clarita Christian School, and Legacy Christian Academy have also announced that the school would be closed on Friday per school officials.

UPDATE (4:45 a.m. Friday) iLEAD Agua Dulce (SCVI) is closed due to the Tick Fire.

College

College of the Canyons has canceled all classes and shut down their campuses through Friday.

The College of the Canyons Valencia Campus has been designated as a Resident Evacuation Center at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Rd, Santa Clarita, CA 91355.

UPDATE (7:30 a.m. Friday) The Master’s University and CalArts have closed their campuses and canceled all classes for the day.

Sports

The College of the Canyons Men’s Soccer game vs. Antelope Valley has been rescheduled for Saturday, Oct. 30.

The varsity game between Saugus and Valencia which was scheduled for Thursday been rescheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26, according to Hart District officials.

The Hart District is monitoring the situation and making a final decision on the status of other athletic events after further updates, according to Hart District officials.
