A Newhall brush fire near the 5 Freeway Saturday has led to a SIGAlert in the area to allow an adequate response from firefighters, officials said.

The brush fire, dubbed the Gavin Fire, was reported around 2:30 p.m. Saturday on the southbound 5 Freeway in Newhall, south of Calgrove Boulevard, said Supervisor Brian Peters, a spokesperson with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
“Forward has been stopped at a quarter acre,” Peters said. “City response has been cancelled, three engines can handle.
The Newhall Pass is a mutual aid zone between LACoFD and the Los Angeles City Fire Department.
The ¼ acre brush fire was slow-moving and was quickly extinguished, according to LACoFD officials.
As of just after 3:00 p.m., a SIGAlert has been issued for the No. 3, 4, and 5 lanes of the southbound 5 Freeway near Gavin Canyon Rest Area south of Calgrove Boulevard, and are expected to remain closed for about 1 hour, according to the California Highway Patrol.
