Trailers In Santa Clarita RV Park Slide Into Flooded Riverbed

Multiple trailers and facilities at the Valencia Travel Village RV Resort were swept into the flooded riverbed early Saturday morning, leaving residents without power and water.

Beginning around midnight on Saturday the flooded Santa Clara riverbed began eroding areas of the park, taking out two RVs, a car, two septic tanks and a dumpster by 3 a.m.

First responders with the L.A. County Fire Department and L.A. County Sheriff’s Department have been at the scene since midnight, evacuating residents and calling in two helicopters in case someone was trapped.

As of 1:30 p.m. Saturday, four trailers have been impacted, according to Dispatch Supervisor Ed Pickett with the L.A. County Fire Department.

“One of the trailers has it where the river has gone on either side of it, and the resident refuses to leave. The other three trailers, we have gotten the residents out and they are now staying with neighbors,” said Pickett.

Deputies remain at the scene and are attempting to get the resident but according to Pickett, “she refuses to leave.”

“She’s not in any immediate danger but if the rain gets worse there is some concern,” stated Pickett.

First responders with the fire department have cleared the area but deputies remain on scene. Only residents in close proximity to the eroded riverbed have been evacuated, not the whole park but are still without power and water.
