A big rig driver who was killed in a 5 Freeway crash Wednesday evening in Sylmar has been identified, officials said.
David Zendejas Silva, 51, from Visalia was killed in the crash, said Sarah Ardalani, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
At around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday night, officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department received reports of a crash on the southbound truck route of the I-5 Freeway, close to the I-210 Freeway connector, said Martin Rangel, dispatch supervisor with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
“(The semi-truck) drifted to the left off the roadway for an unknown reason and collided with four attenuator barrels,” reads the CHP report.

“There were two patients,” Rangel said. “One in critical condition, one dead on arrival.”
The passenger sustained major injuries and was transported to Providence Holy Cross Hospital, according to the CHP.
