An 11-year-old with special needs was riding his bike in Saugus when he was hit by a pickup truck that then fled the scene Wednesday, and now the family is seeking the public’s help identifying the driver.
Around 2:10 p.m. Wednesday, an 11-year-old child was struck while riding his bicycle near Seco Canyon Road and Garzota Drive in Saugus.
As seen in a video provided by the child’s family, a truck collided with the bicyclist and fled the crash scene. The young boy ran to his nearby home, scared by what had just happened.
“My family is very distraught over this horrible incident,” Sophia Ariss, the child’s mother told KHTS. “My son is a child with special needs and is traumatized from this horrific incident. I can’t believe someone would just take off with no regard to human life, I mean come on, he’s a child. He may look like a teenager but he’s only 11. This person hit him and he fell; they just took off. It’s just so heartbreaking.”
Ariss appreciates the drivers who stopped to provide help after witnessing the collision.
“I’m grateful for the three witnesses that did stop and talk to him,” Ariss said. “He was so afraid. This happened right at the corner of our home.”
Ariss and her family are pleading for the public’s help identifying the truck driver who struck her son.
“I’m asking for the public and my community that I was born and raised in to help me find this coward. I want justice for my son and I want him to feel safe riding his bike in our town. Please help us find him/her,” Ariss said.
Anyone with information about the hit-and-run incident is encouraged to contact the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station at 661-260-4000.

The kid was riding in the street and ran a red light. C’mon !! Sounds like awful parenting to me.
Who are you to state “poor parenting” Are you a parent? Do we 100% of the time have our eyes on our kids? Absolutely not. He was right behind his house, and I’m sure half the time cars allow bicycles or pedestrians to have the right of way. So STFU and read your Drivers manual Idiot
What a cruel, mean comment to make. You don’t think his parents feel awful enough already? With what logic do you blame the parents and not the person who hit him and left the scene? Seriously, do better.
What are you talking about? He’s riding with the traffic. Both cars and himself are going the same direction. It must have been a green light.
If he is special needs, what was an 11 year old riding his bike in a busy intersection without a parent!
That’s is so true! Why is the mother saying he’s special needs? I drove down the street yesterday and saw the same kid on his bike on the street. Not so traumatized!! I agree it’s terrible the driver didn’t stop I’m glad the kid is ok, but is the family trying to start a GOfundme account?! 🤔
