The collision occurred at 6:51 a.m. Tuesday on the 35100 block of San Francisquito Canyon Road near Copper Hill Drive, with a report of possible persons trapped, according to Inspector David Michel with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
“When we got to the scene, the patient was dead on arrival,” Michel said. “One other person was transported to the hospital.”
The deceased person is described to be a “John Doe” from Lancaster. He was declared dead at the scene, according to CHP.

The other victim, Amy Porter, of Santa Clarita, was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital with moderate injuries, said officials.
John Doe was driving a 2006 Kia Rio, southbound on San Francisquito Canyon, .4 miles south of Dry Gulch Road, according to CHP.

Porter, a resident of the Santa Clarita Valley, was driving a 2010 Lexus ES350, northbound on San Francisquito Canyon Road.
John Doe attempted to pass traffic and traveled into the northbound lane. While attempting a passing maneuver, the driver observed oncoming traffic, said CHP officials.

Doe made an evasive turning movement to the right and traveled back onto the southbound lane and into the dirt right shoulder.
The deceased driver lost control of his Kia and traveled out of control back over the double yellow lines and into oncoming lanes, where his vehicle collided head-on with the Lexus.
The Kia became fully engulfed in fire and John Doe was pronounced dead at the scene by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

It says Monday but this was this morning.
This happen today Tuesday morning not Monday and the person who caused this accident was illegally passing which happens all the time
Providing it’s safe to do so….that’s the OTHER part of the equation.
I saw this accident on my way to work this morning, it is just south of the San Fran dam. This section of road was put in after sections of San Fran washed out several years ago. It has been the location of many accidents and several fatalities.
I never take this road as drivers are crazy speeders, rude and take risks like this all the time. Never see any Sheriff’s there!
I have video from last Friday of a black camaro passing me over the double yellow just north of Dry Gultch where there were 2 fatalities last year and then a silver Nissan that was passing several vehicles in the straight away close to copper hill, but he continued passing in the curves and was just a second or 2 of hitting another car head on… I drive this almost every day and by my calculations I have traveled that more than 7,000 times… hopefully the odds don’t catch up with me
I spend time on San Francisquito Road all the time, and often cars are passing me going WAY OVER the speed limit, and on curves as well. One such driver forced an oncoming motorcycle off of the road recently, and of course, he didn’t stop to see if the motorcycle rider was okay. Luckily, he was only mad, but not hurt. Accidents will not stop until drivers stop trying to pass over a double yellow line. Have some patience, people….and you’ll arrive at your destination safely.
I really wish our city would spend more money on law enforcement monitoring our roadways. Santa Clarita has the most disrespectful, rude, obnoxious, and stupid drivers. Everyone in a hurry and they don’t care who they put in harms way, even themselves because they are THE most important person on the road. This is #8.
Hi Shar, the City does pay a lot of money to LASD to patrol streets within the City. This is a section outside of City limits maintained by County. I am not 100% sure if this is LASD or CHP enforced or both? What I do know is this Dry Gultch location is a very dangerous section of road and people need to use caution and be alert to protect themselves from those who blatantly ignore the double yellow and fly through that section. Be safe out there people.
Hi So Cal Guy. I don’t know the politics of monitoring our roads inside or outside the city limits, but I do know that if this area is so dangerous something needs to be done. And that is not the only area that needs surveillance. These huge double trailer dump trucks are going way to fast on Via Princess’s, Whites Canyon and Golden Valley. I’ve seen them run the red lights, speed up on the yellow and no sheriff in sight. I know they can’t be every where all the time but during certain hours of the day these streets could be monitored. That’s why the city needs to spend more money on law enforcement especially traffic control. With all the crime in this city they can’t be everywhere so let’s get more motorcycle officers on our roads. Golden Valley and Newhall Ranch Road are becoming blood alleys.
Let’s stop the rolling stops too. I see way too many people just roll into traffic without stopping at stop signs and red traffic lights. Thanks for allowing me to blow off steam. Better here than on the roads.
You all pay so much in taxes already, are you willing to pay more taxes for the cops to sit on that road? Why not a camera. Wouldn’t cost that much and they would be able to mail the tickets. If people knew that there were camera’s all over that road, bet they would slow down!
The picture shows two CHP patrol vehicles. This area is patrolled by the CHP.
Bobby. Good idea. I think that’s a great idea. Like to see some on the freeways too.
