Man Identified After Being Struck By Fatal Hit-And-Run Driver In Castaic

A 31-year-old who died after being struck by a fatal hit-and-run driver on the 5 Freeway Tuesday evening in Castaic has been identified.

Gabriel DeJesus, 31, was the man who died after being struck by a fatal hit-and-run driver, according to officials with the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.

At 8:10 p.m. Tuesday, California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall units were dispatched to a traffic collision involving a pedestrian on the northbound 5 Freeway north of Lake Hughes Road, said Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office.

“CHP units responded to the scene and determined this to be a hit-and-run crash, which resulted in fatal injuries sustained to the pedestrian,” Burgos-Lopez said.

In the early stages of the investigation, it appeared that for unknown reasons DeJesus attempted to cross traffic lanes on foot at the time of the crash, according to Burgos-Lopez.

“The suspect vehicle involved in this crash was described as an unknown color 2014 to 2019 Toyota Corolla, which fled the scene as it continued northbound on I-5,” Burgos-Lopez said.

At this time, the investigation is ongoing, anyone with information is encouraged to contact Officer Bowen at the  CHP Newhall Office at (661) 600-1600.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
