Palmdale Man Identified As Individual Killed In Acton Crash

A Palmdale man was identified as the victim killed in an Acton crash Sunday evening, with “alcohol and/or drugs” suspected to be a factor in the collision, officials said.

Allen Gaitan, 41, of Palmdale, was killed in the crash, said Sarah Ardalani, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.

On Sunday Sept. 20 at about 8:50 p.m., a 1995 Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound on State Route 14, south of Mountain Springs Road, said Officer Monique Mischeaux, spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Antelope Valley Office in a previous article.

For an unknown reason, Gaitan steered the Toyota in a westerly direction across the right shoulder and off the roadway, according to Micheaux.

“(The vehicle) became airborne and collided with the bottom of a descending embankment where it then collided with a barbed-wire fence,” Micheaux said in a statement.

After crashing into the fence, the vehicle continued out of control onto Forest View Road, which parallels Highway 14, where it overturned and traveled off the roadway, according to investigators.

The vehicle traveled down another descending embankment and collided with a chain-link fence where it came to rest, according to Micheaux.

As a result of this collision, Gaitan was ejected from the vehicle, sustaining fatal injuries, she said.

A passenger in the vehicle sustained major injuries and was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital, according to investigators.

“Tragically, another life was lost here in the Antelope Valley,” Micheaux said. “This is the 28th person killed so far this year in the CHP Antelope Valley jurisdiction, SR-14 and unincorporated Los Angeles County. You can help us prevent these senseless deaths by obeying all traffic signs and signals, obeying the speed limit, not driving or walking impaired, and always wearing your seatbelt.”

Anyone with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact Officer S. Breen at the CHP Antelope Valley office at (661) 948-8541.

The collision remains an active investigation, however, drugs and/or alcohol appear to be a factor, according to the CHP report.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
