A Stevenson Ranch man has been identified as the person killed in a fatal crash on Highway 101 earlier this month.
Scott Kim, 25, of Stevenson Ranch, has been identified by the Santa Barbara County Coroner’s Office.
At around 3:16 a.m. on Dec. 4, California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers responded to the scene of a solo-vehicle traffic collision on the southbound Highway 101, just south of Dos Pueblos Road, according to Officer Jonathan Gutierrez, a spokesperson for the CHP Santa Barbara area office.
Kim’s white Lexus SUV left the highway and struck a “No Parking” sign before overturning and slamming into a large tree, according to Gutierrez.
Kim was found unresponsive in the wreckage and was extricated by CHP officers, who provided CPR. Santa Barbara County Fire personnel arrived soon after and took over lifesaving efforts, but eventually pronounced Kim dead at the scene, according to Gutierrez.
Gutierrez noted that the cause of the crash remains under investigation. As of Tuesday, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
A GoFundMe has been created for Kim’s family in the wake of his death.
Kim is described as a “loving, genuine, and deeply caring son and big brother. He was the biggest supporter of his little brother and always put his family first, no matter what,” the fundraiser states.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is urged to call the Santa Barbara CHP office at (805) 770-4800.
