A DUI suspect was arrested after their vehicle flew off of the 5 Freeway in Castaic in a single-car crash late Wednesday night.

About 11:31 p.m. Wednesday, emergency responders received reports of a traffic collision involving a single vehicle near the 5 Freeway south of the Parker Road exit, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP) logs.

An SUV reportedly “flew off the freeway” and landed on property belonging to the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center near Tapia Canyon, according to CHP reports.

Preliminary reports stated that the vehicle in question may have been speeding before the crash and drove through a closure caused by the Route Fire.

“CHP officers responded and locate the vehicle with no driver, a search of the immediate location found a solo pedestrian walking away from the collision scene,” said Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office. “Through investigation it was determined he was the driver of the silver SUV and was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.”
