UPDATE: Victim Identified In Fatal Collision On Bouquet Canyon Road

A fatal collision on Bouquet Canyon Road Saturday night resulted in the death of a 16-year-old boy from Palmdale and the hospitalization of another.

Christopher James Rodriguez, 16, of Palmdale, was identified Sunday afternoon by Investigator Betsy Magdaleno with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Department.

The collision occurred at approximately 4:45 p.m. Saturday on Bouquet Canyon Road near Spunky Canyon Road and involved an early 1990’s Mazda Miata with two passengers, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department Supervisor Melanie Flores.

22-year-old Nicholas Rodriguez, of Palmdale, is believed to have been driving the Mazda Miata, according to a California Highway Patrol news release.

The vehicle was heading southbound on Bouquet Canyon Road, just two miles south of Spunky Canyon Road, according to the release. For unknown reasons, Nicholas Rodriguez lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle spun around before smashing into a tree on the side of the road, according to the news release.

Christopher Rodriguez sustained fatal injuries on scene and was pronounced dead at 5:25 p.m., according to the release.

Nicholas Rodriguez was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital in critical condition, according to CHP officials.

Bouquet Canyon Road was closed for about four hours in the area of the crash.

Drugs and/ or alcohol are not suspected and the crash investigation is ongoing, according to the release. Speed appears to be a factor in the cause of the crash.
