The community is invited on Nov. 11 to join the Santa Clarita City Council, Chaplain Amos Clemmons and Ted Olsen, who once again is serving as master of ceremonies, at the Veterans Historical Plaza in Newhall.
The ceremony is set to begin with the tolling of the Bells of Peace at 11 a.m. as part of a worldwide event observing the 100th anniversary of the end of the “war to end all wars.”
The event includes several memorial readings and performances, beginning with a reading of “In Flanders Field” by Vietnam veteran Jerry Rhodes.
Musical performances include a rendition of the wartime tune “Over There” by Jerry Danielsen, Lisa Vig and Cynthia Moller. Both pieces were written during World War I.
The ceremony also features a reading by Robert Heinisch for all those who are missing in action (MIA) or prisoners of war (POW).
Lt. Colonel David M. Jackson, who served during Operation Desert Storm, as well as in Rwanda and Haiti, is scheduled to speak to the audience.
Changing of the flags is planned for the end of the ceremony, performed by the Knights of Columbus Santa Clarita Assembly and Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 355.
