A fire weather watch is expected to go into effect Friday as a moderate Santa Ana wind event is in the Santa Clarita weather forecast.
Beginning Friday morning through Saturday evening, a fire weather watch is expected for Santa Clarita, said David Sweet, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service.
“Currently, there is definitely a concern for possible critical fire conditions between early Friday and Saturday evening,” Sweet said.
Santa Ana wind conditions are coming in Thursday night into Friday morning with northeast winds with gusts up to 40 to 50 mph, according to Sweet.
In combination with the winds, there is low humidity and high temperatures reaching the upper 80s to 90s raising concerns for the possibility of rapid spread of any fire that may start, Sweet said.
By next week, winds are expected to die down, according to officials.
“Conditions will improve with a cooling trend,” Sweet said.
By late next week, there is a slight chance for some light rain showers, however, it is unclear how much rain is expected, according to Sweet.
