Fire Danger, Poor Air Quality Warnings Issued For Santa Clarita

Several weather warnings have been issued for the Santa Clarita Valley, including conditions conducive to “elevated fire conditions,” officials said

The National Weather Service has warned Santa Clarita residents that the 14 Freeway corridor is set to experience elevated fire weather conditions, according to NWS officials.

A combination of winds, warm temperatures and low humidities are expected to allow critical fire weather conditions along the corridor through Tuesday, National Weather Service officials said.

The weather is expected to range from the mid-80s to low-90s through the week, climbing to about 99 degrees by Saturday, then 101 degrees on Sunday.

A warning for “unhealthy” air quality for Monday has also been issued, according to the South Coast Air Quality Management District.

Los Angeles County Health Officer, Muntu Davis, MD, MPH, advises people living or working in these areas with heart disease, asthma or other respiratory diseases to minimize outdoor activities.

Children who have sensitive conditions, including heart disease, asthma, and other chronic respiratory diseases, should not participate in outdoor physical activity at schools, camps and other recreational programs and should stay indoors as much as possible.
