The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a freeze warning for Santa Clarita as temperatures are forecast to be below freezing point Tuesday morning.
The NWS freeze warning was issued just after 2 p.m. Monday, and is expected to last from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. Tuesday.
“A freeze can kill crops and sensitive vegetation, and harm outdoor pets and livestock,” reads a statement from the NWS. “Extended exposure to cold can cause hypothermia.”
A freeze warning is usually issued when temperatures are projected to be between 29 and 32 degrees for two or more consecutive hours, according to NWS officials.
“Protective measures to save crops and sensitive vegetation should be taken,” the NWS statement reads. “Vulnerable animals and pets should be kept indoors in a house or barn.”
Temperatures in sheltered areas are expected to fall between 29 and 32 degrees early Tuesday, with some isolated cold pockets possibly dropping to 28 degrees, according to officials.
Temperatures are expected to remain low throughout the week, with the warmest day in the forecast being Friday, with a predicted high of 54 degrees.
