Heat Advisory Remains In Place Through Superbowl Sunday

“Unseasonably warm” temperatures in Santa Clarita are expected to continue through the weekend as a heatwave supplants usual winter weather.

The National Weather Service (NWS) Los Angeles warned temperatures would be 15 to 20 degrees warmer than usual for this season from Wednesday through Sunday, potentially leading to heat-related conditions.

“This is unseasonably hot, so many people will not be acclimated to this heat leading to faster onset dehydration and heat stress,” said NWS Los Angeles representatives in a tweet. “Please, take precautions and stay safe this week.”

From Wednesday through Sunday, Santa Clarita is expected to be affected by temperatures of around 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Santa Clarita experiences an average temperature of 66 degrees in February.

The warning from the NWS comes after an excessive heat watch was announced yesterday for areas immediately south of Santa Clarita, where temperatures are expected to reach 85 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

A heat advisory has also been issued by NWS Los Angeles for the L.A. County Coast, San Fernando Valley and San Gabriel Valley.
