Doppler radar tracked strong thunderstorms stretching from just northwest of Santa Clarita through Granada Hills and toward Santa Monica, moving east to northeast at around 15 mph Wednesday morning.
Forecasters said these storms were capable of producing heavy downpours in a short period of time, increasing the risk of rapid runoff and flash flooding.
In a Special Weather Statement, the National Weather Service warned that strong thunderstorms would continue impacting central Los Angeles County through at least mid-morning, with the Santa Clarita Valley directly in the storm’s path. Residents were urged to remain alert for rapidly changing conditions.
As of 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Magic Mountain pkwy is closed at Railroad ave because of flooding issues and at least four people have been rescued on an island in the Santa Clara River in Saugus.
