A cold storm is expected to bring over an inch of rain and possible Grapevine snow for Santa Clarita over the Christmas holiday, officials said Saturday.
Rain and thunderstorms are expected early in the week, with a chance of snow on the Grapevine after Christmas, according to the National Weather Service.
That cold offshore flow from the incoming storm could cause snow levels to dip to the level of the I-5 Freeway through the Tehachapi Mountains, according to the NWS.
“It’s possible that there could be snow down to the level of the Grapevine, which is at about 4,100 feet, on Monday night,” said Curt Kaplan, a meteorologist at the NWS L.A./Oxnard office.
Monday is expected to bring rain in the morning, then progressing to a slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon, along with 10 to 20 mph winds, said NWS officials.
Tuesday is expected to offer a light reprieve from the damp weather, with Christmas Day expected to bring highs in the upper 40s to mid-50s degrees to Santa Clarita, a cool weather trend expected to last until Saturday.
The bulk of the rain is expected from Wednesday through Friday, dropping up to 1.5 inches, according to the NWS.
